Copy of Remote Learning Plans Weeks 5-7

Happy Friday! :)

** On Flipgrid, there are 3 topics for you to respond to: “Say Hello,” “My Favorite Memory,” and “Favorite Toy/Game/Stuffed Animal.” Go on to add your response and hear what your friends have to say. Click the + sign in the green circle to add it to the main thread if you want to talk to the class/classmates.**

Literacy:

* Writing (15 minutes or less)

* This week you will learn that you don’t need anyone’s help in figuring out how to spell words, even the hard ones, because you have sound power!

Please choose a piece of writing that you would like to do.  From Tuesday.. By the end of today you should send me two completed pieces of writing.

Choices:

-true story

- how to book

-persuasive piece

-letter to someone

-an illustration with labels

* Here are some spelling strategies to help you…

 *Check the word wall. (At home, use your sight word list.)

*Stretch the word out and really listen for each sound

*Refer to the alphabet chart (on the class story)

*Listen for little words in a larger word (into = “in” and “to”).

* Try sounding out the words.  See how many sounds you hear and write the letters for those sounds.  Remember… the words do NOT need to be spelled correctly, just phonetically correct so someone can figure out what you wrote. You can do it!  Take your time and use the strategies above to help you.

 * Send a picture on DOJO or SeeSaw when you are finished.

* Fundations (less than 10 minutes)

* Watch the digraph video to practice with drilling these letters/sounds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4RN7iLx3cY

* On SeeSaw, complete the “Trash Can Rhyming” activity.

* Also, complete any activities not already done.

Additional: Use words from your current SNAP word list. Pick 5 and choose 1 activity to complete from the choice board on DOJO

* Reading:

* On Seesaw, complete the “Pete the Cat retelling” activity

* You only have to do this 1 time If you did not complete from earlier this week… As books get harder, they start to change, and YOU will have to change to read them!  You will need extra "Picture Power" and extra "Snap Word" power (snap words are our sight words!).  Before reading.. go over the sight words you already know.  This will get your brain ready to tackle books and give you extra “Snap Word Power.”

* Start with reading a few easy books before you try a harder and keep taking the quizzes on Raz-Kids when you are done reading a book!  Being able to answer questions about what you read is just as important as being able to read the words on the page!

*One new thing I would like you to learn about this week is reading "snap words" with inflected endings.  I usually teach this by telling a story about how I did not recognize someone once because something about them had changed (like they were wearing a hat, they got a new haircut, etc…). You might not always recognize snap words because they change a little bit in some stories.

* For example, the word play can change to plays, playing, or played. When you are reading books, you need to ask yourself, “Does this look like a word I know?” (Keep in mind that sometimes the "ed" at the end of a word sounds like /t/.  So, if a word sounds funny with a /d/ sound, try a /t/ sound!)

* Please do the following activity and post on Seesaw or DOJO.

* Choose a longer story you have at home and go on a “Sight/Snap Word in Disguise” hunt.  Make me a list of the words you found in this book that are sight/snap words with endings.  Example words…

Literacy:

* Complete the writing prompt in your Fundations journal (15 minutes or less)

* Our goal is to persuade someone to agree with our opinion. Using the chart on DOJO, choose 1 topic (or think of your own) to write about and give 2 reasons WHY you feel that way. There should also be a clear picture to match the writing.

* You have 3 options to represent your work:

  1. Continue to write sentences in your Fundations journal (like we have been doing)

*Example: “You should brush your teeth every night before you go to bed.  When you brush your teeth, you keep them clean and healthy.  Also, brushing your teeth makes them shiny!

  1. Write a letter to someone

            * Example: “Dear Brother,

Can you please help me build my Lego set?  I could use your help because you are so good at building Legos.  Another reason is we would also get to spend time doing something fun together!

                                    Love,

                                                Your Name

  1. Design a poster or a sign

* Example: Make a sign with words and a picture to hang in your house reminding others to wash their hands.  “Remember to wash your hands!  Washing your hands keeps you healthy.  Washing hands stops the spread of germs!”

* Please keep working on your sentence structure and sounding out words phonetically.  Remember… words should NOT be spelled correctly! You need to be able to write a sentence all by yourself in September that your teacher can read without you telling them what you wrote. Do your sentence all by yourself today and ask someone at your house to try to read it.  If they can, then you know you did it PERFECTLY for kindergarten!!! Send a picture on DOJO or SeeSaw when you are finished.

* Fundations (less than 10 minutes)

* Watch the digraph video to practice with drilling the sounds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4RN7iLx3cY

* Today is catch up day. Complete any activities that you have not done. There is nothing new.

* Snap Word Practice (less than 10 minutes)Use words from your current SNAP word list. Pick 5 a day and choose 1 activity to complete from the choice board on DOJO.

* RAZ-kids (10-15 minutes minimum)

*  Log in using the information provided via DOJO (messages)

* Choose “level up” from the student portal

* Pick a story from the list. In order for the story to be marked complete, students need to listen to the book, read the book, and take the quiz (if the book has a quiz, which not all do, the ? mark will be lit)

* These steps must be done for all the books listed in order to move on to the next level of texts.

* Choose 1 book to record yourself reading. Click the book icon under the book you’re choosing. Click the red microphone at the top to record.

*Additional Activities: Read from your book baggie, choose an activity from the choice board provided before break, or go on EPIC!

Math: (about 15 minutes)

* Today is a catch up day. Complete any activities that you have not done.  There is nothing new.

            * Example: “Dear Brother,

Literacy:

* Complete the writing prompt in your Fundations journal (15 minutes or less)

* Our goal is to persuade someone to agree with our opinion. Using the chart on the Dojo plans, choose 1 topic to write about and give 2 reasons WHY you feel that way. There should also be a clear picture to match the writing. I have shared 2 writing examples below.

Example #1: Disney World is the best vacation place because they have a lot of characters to take pictures with. Also, you can go really fast on the Test Track ride!
